Dalhousie
Dalhousie is not as famous as Darjeeling or Shimla, but a walk down the Malls and the Moti Tibba Hill is an enchanting one. It stands at a height between 1,525 m and 2,378 m and is surrounded by snow-capped peaks, lush green forests of pine, oak and rhododendron. Dalhousie is famous for its colonial type architecture, and beautiful churches. The panoramic view of the Ravi River and the Dauladhar range add to the beauty of the hill station.

Location of Dalhousie
Dalhousie is built on five hills namely Kathlog, Potreyn, Tehra, Bakrota and Balun and is nestled between Dauladhar and Pir Panjal Range in western Himalayas. It covers an area of 14 square kms and is full of an old world charm reminiscent of the Raj era.

What to see in Dalhousie?
Churches: St. Andrew’s Church and St. Patrick’s Church at Balun, St. Francis’ Church at Subash Chowk and St. John’s Church at Gandhi Chowk are four important churches in Dalhousie which should be in your itinerary while on a visit to Dalhousie.

Shubhash Baoli: It is this place where Subhash Chandra Bose spent a lot of time meditating and contemplating in 1937.

Panchpula: This picturesque place is 3kms from Dalhousie where a number of pools are fed by a stream. A monument in memory of freedom fighter, Sardar Ajit Singh has been built here.

Kalatop: This wild life sanctuary is 10kms from Dalhousie and is home to Himalayan black bear and ‘ghoral’.

Lower Bakrota Hill: Just 3km off Gandhi Chowk, Lower Bakrota Hill houses one of the oldest Tibetan settlements in Himachal Pradesh. This place is now home to 50 odd Tibetan families and houses a school, a prayer hall and Tibetan Handicrafts Centre.

Excursions from Dalhousie

Khajjar: Khajjar was originally developed as a golf course. It is located at height of 6,430 ft. The place is named after a temple dedicated to Khajinag. Many people love to trek to Dharamsala from Khajjar.

By Air: The nearest airport is Gaggal, 124 kms from Dalhousie.

By Rail: Chakki Bank is the nearest station. You can also get down at Pathankot and take a bus or taxi to reach Dalhousie.

By Road: You can reach Dalhousie using the bus service Dharamsala, Pathankot, Chandigarh and Shimla.
